Social Design Week

14 Novembro 2022

ESAD (Superior School of Arts and Design) organized the Social Design Week, an event aimed at using design as a tool to combat inequality and promote sustainable, environmental, economic, and social development through creative economy.

As part of the Postgraduate Program in Design for Social Impact, the Social Design Week provided moments of reflection on the impact of design on communities, including a program of free-entry conferences and a workshop dedicated to the theme "Social Design - Surf in Matosinhos."

Designers Sigurdur Thorsteinsson and Giulio Vinaccia, representatives of the United Nations, were responsible for delivering two conferences and guiding the workshop. The goal was to develop a multidisciplinary project in response to the proposal by the Matosinhos City Council to expand the practice of surfing by implementing new schools, urban facilities, and services, making this sport accessible to all. The workshop involved students from various courses at ESAD, such as Product Design, Fashion, Interiors, Multimedia, and Communication.

The Postgraduate Program in Design for Social Impact aims to promote collaboration, transformation, and regeneration for a new generation of entrepreneurs, contributing to sustainable business models for regions and communities.
