Tribute to the Fishermen

Napesmate paid tribute to the victims of the 1947 shipwreck with several initiatives that commemorated one of the most tragic moments in the history of Matosinhos. In that fateful incident, 152 fishermen lost their lives, leaving a legacy marked by courage and dedication to the sea.
Napesmate - Núcleo dos Amigos dos Pescadores de Matosinhos organized a tribute ceremony for the victims and their families, held at the institution's headquarters. The tribute included poetic moments and a moving musical performance by gospel singer Vânia Sá Pereira, captivating the audience with her songs.
Napesmate, founded in 2004, aims to preserve and disseminate the real-life stories of fishermen and fishing. In 2012, they inaugurated the Núcleo Museológico do Mar, located in the former Primary School of the Fishing District. This space has the mission of preserving the memory of the fishermen of Matosinhos and promoting the study and appreciation of this important legacy.
In addition, Napesmate publishes the monthly bulletin "Maré," a means of sharing written stories about the real-life experiences of fishing and fishermen, contributing to the promotion of this rich tradition.
