Matosinhos celebrated Family Day and fight against obesity
Matosinhos brought to life the principles of sustainability and creativity that characterise the Matosinhos community, in the celebration of Family Day, in May 2023. The Ecological Park Monte de S. Brás, in Santa Cruz do Bispo, was the stage for the "Showcooking & Divercook Challenge", an initiative that united International Family Day and National Fight Against Obesity Day.
This event provided the educational community with a day full of activities, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of healthy lifestyles. The event sought to actively involve families, highlighting their fundamental role in children's and young people's nutrition and encouraging the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
One of the highlights of the day was the showcooking, where chefs and a nutritionist shared healthy cooking techniques with participants, promoting learning and sharing of experiences and knowledge.
The Divercook Challenge, which followed, added a note of challenge and cultural diversity to the event. This competition, in which each team was composed of a student and a relative, was an invitation to creativity and innovation, with participants being challenged to prepare a healthy meal from a surprise basket of ingredients.
This year, the initiative gained additional value by associating itself with the dimension of multiculturalism, giving voice to the growing number of students of different nationalities attending local schools, encouraging the sharing of cultures and experiences through food.
The initiative was partnered with the Local Support Centre for the Integration of Migrants of Matosinhos (CLAIM), the technical teams of the schools and ADEIMA (Association for the Integrated Development of Matosinhos), showing that cooperation and joint work are keys to the development of a creative and sustainable city.
In the end, all teams were recognised, reinforcing the idea that every contribution is valuable and that everyone has a role to play in creating a healthier, more inclusive and creative city. This event showed how Matosinhos is in tune with the principles that govern Creative Cities, by promoting health, diversity, creativity and sustainability in its community.
