Matosinhos bets on senior tourism at Le Salon des Seniors in Paris

26 Março 2023

For the second year in a row, Matosinhos City Hall made its presence felt at Le Salon des Seniors in Paris, in partnership with Portugal Exhibition. This event, which took place in March, is specially directed at people over 50 years of age, a segment that represents significant potential for the city of Matosinhos.

The city's interest in this fair, which brings together over 150 exhibitors and 60,000 visitors, reflects Matosinhos's strategy of participating in specialized events and offering segmented tourism products. The city recognizes the size and relevance of this age segment and aims to position itself as a destination of choice for this audience, originating from the major European markets emitting senior tourists.

The proximity of Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is an important facilitator for this type of tourism, enhancing Matosinhos's accessibility to visitors, particularly those from Europe, and strengthening the city's competitiveness as a destination for this tourist segment.

Matosinhos's strong commitment to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals aligns with the increasing concern of senior tourists in choosing socially and environmentally responsible destinations. Matosinhos, already sharing the values of UNESCO's Creative Cities Network, understands the importance of safety, quality, and the diversity of gastronomic, cultural, and other aspects valued by this audience.

Matosinhos's rich gastronomic offering, deeply linked to the sea and fishing, cultural diversity with its various museums and events, and the safety the city provides, make it an attractive destination for this segment of tourists. Providing unique and authentic experiences, Matosinhos asserts itself as a destination that values history, culture, and traditions, while also betting on innovation and sustainability.

During Le Salon des Seniors, Matosinhos presented its cultural, gastronomic, and tourist wealth, fitting into the Salon's vast programming that included diverse activities such as cooking classes, fitness sessions, over a hundred conferences/lectures, and concerts by artists such as Christian Delagrange and Les Dixieland Seniors.

This event will continue to be an important step in affirming Matosinhos as a destination of choice for senior tourism in Europe.
