BIO-WASTE COLLECTION PROJECT PROMOTES SUSTAINABILITY IN LINE WITH UN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS AND UNESCO VALUES

28 Março 2023

The ambitious Bio-Waste Collection project will soon be reaching many homes, representing a significant step towards sustainability and the circular economy. This project, allowing selected residents to separate their domestic food waste at no cost, aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UNESCO's values.

The separation and valorisation of food waste - which includes leftover meal scraps and food remnants - enact the practical implementation of the UN's 12th SDG, focusing on "sustainable production and consumption." With the transformation of waste into 100% natural organic compost, the project also contributes to the 15th SDG, which targets "life on land," promoting the use of natural soil amendments.

To facilitate the collection of this waste, dedicated containers will be installed in accessible locations near residents' homes, as part of the existing network of recycling points and containers. The use of a special card will enable the opening of the container for the deposition of food waste.

Over the coming months, an experienced team will sensitise the population to join the project. Residents who join the project will receive a 10-litre brown container to separate their food waste in a simple and comfortable way, without any additional cost.

This initiative not only contributes to environmental preservation and the promotion of the circular economy but also to the realisation of UNESCO's values, which advocate for learning and innovation for sustainable development. Active participation of residents is key to the success of this project, highlighting the importance of community engagement in achieving the SDGs and building a more sustainable future.
