Gala Michelin 2025

26 Setembro 2024

Matosinhos hosted today, at the Cruise Terminal of the Port of Leixões, the press conference to present the Michelin Guide Gala for 2025, an event that distinguishes those considered to be the best restaurants in Portugal.

Rui Paula, from the restaurant Casa de Chá da Boa Nova (Leça da Palmeira), Ricardo Costa, from the restaurant The Yeatman (Vila Nova de Gaia), and Vítor Matos, from the restaurant Antiqvvm (Porto), all with two Michelin stars, will be the gastronomic coordinators of the event that will take place at the Alfândega do Porto Congress Center on February 25, 2025, date and location announced by Nuno Ferreira, representative of the Michelin Guide in Portugal, at today's press conference.

The Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, joined in the celebrations, congratulating herself on the fact that the next Michelin Gala, which for the second consecutive year will take place independently from Spain, will be held in the North region.

Luísa Salgueiro began by praising the location chosen for this presentation, the Leixões Cruise Terminal, with a “fantastic landscape that illustrates well the relationship between Matosinhos and the sea”. The mayor took the opportunity to applaud the gastronomy of the North, giving the example of Matosinhos as a reference in this region in terms of gastronomy and restaurants. “We have between 450 and 500 restaurants in Matosinhos, most of them serving fish and seafood,” he said. “The city hall has made a huge investment to take the name of Matosinhos, our cuisine, our fish and seafood, throughout the country and the world,” he added. “That’s why we’re very happy with the choice of the North and Porto to host next year’s Michelin Gala. On our part, we are committed to continuing to work together to consolidate and disseminate the gastronomy of the North region,” he concluded.

“The choice of Porto as the setting for the new selection of Michelin Guide restaurants in Portugal confirms the tourist, cultural and gastronomic wealth of the Porto and North region, a destination capable of attracting both gourmets and travelers in search of culture and authenticity. With a culinary tradition that stands out for the diversity and quality of its local products, as well as the creativity of internationally renowned chefs, the region offers a unique experience,” said Luis Pedro Martins, president of Turismo do Porto e Norte de Portugal.

The initiative was also attended by Marta Pontes, Councillor for Economy and Tourism at Matosinhos City Council, representatives from Porto City Council, chefs and other interested parties in the area.
